If you’re a South African graduate who wants a start in investments, Momentum Investments is one of the more recognisable names to aim for. Momentum Investments is part of Momentum Metropolitan Life Limited, and its early-career pipeline runs through several channels. Here is what you need to know before you apply.

The Short Version

The 2027 intake for Momentum Investments is the Graduate / Internship Programme in Centurion, run in partnership with the Youth Employment Services (YES) initiative. It offers unemployed youth a 12-month opportunity to gain experience, and successful candidates qualify for a monthly stipend.

Timing: Listings I found gave closing dates of 22 August 2026 and 28 August 2026. Both have passed, so check the portal for new or reopened roles.

Where to Apply

I couldn’t open a live deep link to the 2027 posting. The “Apply Now” buttons on third-party job sites forward to Momentum’s portal, but it’s safer to search the posting by title on the official site yourself.

Who Can Apply

The Centurion 2027 posting lists these degree streams:

  • Finance: Finance, Accounting, Investment Management or related fields.
  • Information Technology: IT, Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science or related fields.
  • Governance: Risk Management, Compliance, Law, Governance or related fields.

The Investments Operations stream also lists these requirements:

  • Strong Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables and logical formulas such as IF statements.
  • Exposure to fund administration, fund accounting or reconciliations.
  • Power BI, SQL, Python or VBA is an advantage.

Other points to check:

  • You must be a first-time YES participant.
  • One listing states South African citizens aged between 18 and 25. Other Momentum programmes allow older applicants, so read the age limit on the specific advert.
  • You should currently be unemployed.
  • Earlier Momentum internships also asked for a clean criminal and credit record. Be ready for background checks.

What the Programme Offers

  • A 12-month placement in a real investments team, not a shadowing role.
  • A monthly stipend. The 2027 amount wasn’t disclosed in what I found. For reference, a 2026 Centurion intake was reported at R6,500 per month. Confirm the current figure in the advert.
  • Structured learning. A related Momentum investments internship included study time toward a Financial Markets Practitioner qualification.
  • A CV boost. Programmes like this can lead to junior roles, graduate programmes, contract work or permanent employment. Permanent employment is not guaranteed.

Other Momentum Opportunities

Momentum runs several other intakes alongside the investments one:

  • Human Capital, Retail Trading, Client Liaison and Facilities internships, plus Client Service Administrator learnerships in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
  • A Momentum Investments L&D YES Learnership in Centurion for HR or business graduates.
  • The Phambili Bursary Programme, which covers tuition, textbooks and accommodation for students who want a future in investments and creates a pathway to the Phambili Internship.

Not the Same Momentum

If you’re searching in the US, there is a separate company called Momentum. It advertises a paid, full-time, on-site 2027 MBA Summer Associate internship, with applications best submitted by Nov 1. It’s aimed at current MBA students and is unrelated to Momentum Investments.

Application Checklist

  1. Certified ID copy and proof of South African citizenship.
  2. Matric certificate and academic transcript. One listing asked that all CVs include a table with academic results.
  3. Updated CV, tailored to the stream you’re applying for.
  4. Proof of qualification (degree certificate or confirmation of completion).
  5. Any extra documents the portal requests.

Tips to Stand Out

  • Show your Excel skills with specifics. Name the functions you use, such as pivot tables and lookups, and what you’ve done with them.
  • Show interest in markets. Follow JSE news, unit trust basics and fund administration terms so you can talk about them in an interview.
  • Match keywords to the advert. Applications are often screened by system first.
  • Apply early. Roles can close before the stated date.
  • Beware of scams. Momentum will never ask you to pay to apply. Use only the official portal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the internship paid? Yes, through a monthly stipend.

Do I need work experience? Usually not. These programmes are designed for graduates entering the workplace.

Can I apply if I’ve done a learnership or internship before? The YES posting requires first-time participants, so probably not for that programme.

Does the internship lead to a permanent job? It isn’t guaranteed, but it gives you experience and a network.

I can also turn this into a file or write a tailored CV summary and cover letter for the Finance or Investment Operations stream.
