What Is This Programme?
A graduate internship is a structured work-experience programme. You’ve finished your studies, but employers keep asking for experience you haven’t had a chance to get yet. Government internships close that gap. You spend two years inside a real department, learn how a public institution works, and build a record you can put on your CV.
At Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, that means working on the buildings, roads and infrastructure that people in Limpopo use every day. You won’t be making tea. You’ll be placed in a working unit and gain exposure to real projects.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is aimed at unemployed South African graduates who need workplace experience. The most important rule is easy to miss: you must not have taken part in a Public Service Graduate Internship Programme in any government department before.
If you have already done a government internship, even a short one in another department, you will likely be disqualified. Check this honestly before you spend time on an application.
The department also states that women and people living with disabilities are encouraged to apply, and that appointments take its Employment Equity Plan into account.
The Four Internship Fields
The 60 posts fall into four areas.
- Properties and Facilities: managing government land and buildings
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS): mapping and spatial data
- Roads Maintenance: keeping the provincial road network in working order
- Infrastructure Management: planning and overseeing infrastructure projects

Your qualification must match the post you apply for. Here is what the advert lists.

How to Apply Step by Step
Option 1: Online (the easiest route)

- Find the Public Works internship post that matches your qualification and preferred location.
- Upload a recent, comprehensive CV.
- Attach copies of your qualifications, ID, and a valid driver’s licence where applicable.
- Submit before the deadline.
The department warns that leaving out required documents may lead to disqualification.
Option 2: Post or hand delivery
If you can’t apply online, you can submit a paper application. You will need a duly completed new Z83 form and a detailed CV. Use the address for the office you’re applying to.

Documents Checklist
Before you start, get these ready:
- An updated CV with your qualifications, dates and contact details
- Your ID document
- Your Grade 12 certificate
- Your diploma or degree certificate, or a full academic record if you haven’t graduated yet
- A valid driver’s licence, if applicable
- A completed new Z83 form, if you’re applying on paper
Certified copies matter later. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to submit certified copies of their ID, Grade 12 certificate and relevant qualifications. You don’t have to certify everything now, but it helps to know where a police station or commissioner of oaths is.
What to Expect After You Apply
Government recruitment is slow. Expect to wait weeks or even months after the closing date. If you’re shortlisted, you will be contacted and asked for certified documents. Keep your phone on and check your email, including spam.
Some interns may have to go through further checks before they are appointed, so make sure everything on your CV is accurate and can be proved.
Tips to Make Your Application Stronger
Match your post exactly. Apply for the reference number that fits your qualification. A civil engineering graduate who applies for a property post may be passed over.
Apply early. Online systems get busy near deadlines. Don’t leave it until 16:00 on 06 November.
Keep your CV clean and honest. Two pages is enough. Lead with your qualification, then any projects, volunteer work or part-time jobs.
Name your file properly. Something like “Surname_Initials_CV” looks professional and helps officials find your documents.
Double-check your contact details. A wrong phone number or email address is one of the most common reasons candidates are never reached.
Apply to the right district. If you live in Vhembe, choose Vhembe. Placement is tied to the post you apply for.
Beware of Scams
Real government internships never charge you to apply. If anyone asks for money, promises a guaranteed spot, or asks you to pay for a Z83 form, walk away. Apply only through the official e-Recruitment site or by delivering to the official addresses listed above.
One Important Caution
I found the details above in a summary of the official advert. I couldn’t open the original department circular. Before you apply, compare the closing date, reference numbers and qualification requirements with the advert on the e-Recruitment portal or the Limpopo government circulars page. Departments sometimes correct or extend adverts.
Final Thoughts
Twenty-four months of paid, structured experience is a real head start, especially in engineering and property, where employers value hands-on exposure. If your qualification matches one of the posts, gather your documents this week and apply well before 06 November 2026 at 16:30.
I can also turn this into a Word document or Google Doc if you’d like to post it.
