Eskom Graduate Internship Programme 2027: Everything You Need to Know Before Applying

Quick note before you read: The 2026/2027 Eskom intakes I found closed in September. The Group Capital Division internship closed on 23 September 2026, and the Graduate in Training listings closed between 8 and 10 September 2026. Today is 7 October 2026, so those adverts have passed. Use this guide to prepare, so you’re ready when the next round opens. studentroom studentroom

What Is the Eskom Graduate Internship Programme?

Eskom is South Africa’s national power utility. Each year it recruits unemployed graduates into structured, paid workplace programmes, often called Graduate in Training (GIT) or Group Capital Division internships. They give you real work experience, mentorship and a stipend, so you can move from “graduate with no experience” to “graduate with Eskom on your CV.”

The Group Capital Division programme combines workplace learning with mentorship from Eskom professionals. One GIT listing describes a 24-month structured programme across finance, engineering, IT, law, data and project disciplines. Duration and placement can differ by advert, so always check the exact listing.

Fields Covered

Eskom’s recent adverts cover far more than engineering. For the fields you listed, these are the typical fit:

  • Commerce: business and commercial graduates, often in project or procurement support
  • Human Resources: HR administration, training and development, labour relations
  • Finance: BCom, Accounting and related degrees
  • Law: LLB graduates, often in legal and contract support
  • IT: IT, Computer Science and Information Systems
  • Supply Chain and Logistics: procurement, stores, warehousing and logistics
  • Auditing: audit, risk and compliance

Past Group Capital advertising named business, finance, law, construction, communication, human resources, environmental management and information management as suitable disciplines. Separate GIT listings have included HR, Logistics, Finance, Training and Development and Quantity Surveying. Which roles appear in a given year changes, so don’t assume every field above is open every time.

Where Are the Placements?

Locations depend on the advert. The Group Capital Division internship was based in Gauteng, Free State and Mpumalanga. The GIT listings included sites such as Hendrina, Matla and Witbank in Mpumalanga. Many roles are based at Megawatt Park in Sunninghill, Johannesburg. Think about whether you can relocate before you apply. Eskom Group Capital Division Graduate Internships 2026 +2

Who Can Apply?

Requirements differ by advert, but these come up repeatedly:

  1. A South African citizen.
  2. Unemployed, not in permanent employment.
  3. A completed qualification (degree, diploma or BTech) in the field advertised.
  4. No prior related work experience, as the programme is meant for graduates with none.
  5. Good communication, computer skills, analytical thinking and teamwork.

If you’re still studying, this programme isn’t for you. Eskom’s bursary and vacation-work routes are separate.

What Will You Earn?

The adverts list remuneration as an “Eskom Stipend.” The exact amount is confirmed in your internship agreement before you start. I couldn’t find an official published figure, and websites that quote exact amounts may be guessing. Treat any specific number you see with caution until Eskom confirms it.

How to Apply

Direct links:

Two cautions about links:

  • Each vacancy has its own listing and closing date, so don’t expect one link to cover every programme. Applicants should not use one application link for every programme.
  • Sources disagree on the portal’s status. One guide reported that in July 2026 Eskom’s careers page said its recruitment website was temporarily unavailable. Other guides describe it as open. Check the live careers page before you spend time on a profile.

Steps:

  1. Open the official Eskom careers page.
  2. Register an account and complete your profile.
  3. Upload your CV, ID, qualifications and academic record.
  4. Search for “Graduate in Training,” “Internship” or your discipline.
  5. Open the advert, check the reference number and closing date, then click Apply.
  6. Submit before the deadline and keep your confirmation.

Documents to Prepare Now

  • A clear, up-to-date CV
  • Certified copy of your ID
  • Certified copies of your degree or diploma and full academic transcript
  • Matric certificate
  • A short list of references

Having these in one folder lets you apply within minutes when a listing opens.

Tips to Stand Out

  • Match the advert. Read the requirements and mirror their language in your CV.
  • Show results, not duties. “Reconciled 200 supplier accounts monthly” beats “worked in finance.”
  • Apply early. Eskom attracts thousands of applicants per opening, and the portal closes on the deadline day.
  • Apply to several suitable roles, but only ones you truly qualify for.
  • Check your profile weekly and keep it updated.

Avoid Scams

Eskom-branded fake adverts are common. Keep these rules in mind:

  • Eskom never charges a fee to apply or to attend an interview.
  • Eskom is portal-only and does not accept emailed CVs for advertised roles.
  • Be suspicious of WhatsApp, Facebook or SMS “hiring” messages, Gmail or Yahoo addresses, and interview venues that aren’t Eskom premises.
  • If a vacancy isn’t on the official portal, treat it as fake.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 2027 intake open right now? The adverts I found have closed. Check the official careers page for new listings.

Can I apply without experience? Yes. These programmes are designed for graduates without work experience.

Do I need to pay? No.

Will the internship lead to a permanent job? Not automatically. It gives you verified experience and an Eskom reference, and it strengthens later applications.

Final Thoughts

Eskom’s graduate programmes are among the more competitive entry routes into South Africa’s public sector. Your best move now is to get your documents ready, create your profile if the portal is open, and check it regularly so you catch the next intake early.

I can turn this into a downloadable Word or PDF file, or rewrite it with a different tone, if you’d like.
