Before you start: I could not find a verified direct application link on CHIETA’s own website, and I won’t make one up. CHIETA’s recent adverts used an official application form sent by email, and those addresses are in the how-to-apply section below. Most of the 2026 intakes have already closed, so this guide also shows you how to prepare for the next one.
Introduction
Every year, thousands of South African graduates finish their studies and hit the same wall. Employers ask for experience, but nobody will hire you to get that experience. Internships funded by Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) exist to fix this problem. The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) is one of them.
This guide covers what CHIETA is, which opportunities were advertised for 2026, how the HR, IT, Administration and Public Management streams differ, and what to prepare. It also covers how to write an application that stands out and how to avoid scams.
What Is CHIETA?
CHIETA is the SETA for the chemical sector. SETAs exist to improve skills development in South African industries, and CHIETA does this by funding training programmes. These include learnerships, bursaries, apprenticeships and internships. Some posts are at CHIETA’s own offices, and others are hosted by partner employers and institutions.
You don’t have to study chemistry to benefit. Like any organisation, CHIETA needs people in HR, finance, administration, data, research and public-sector-style governance work. That is why graduates from business and management fields can apply.
Why a CHIETA Internship Is Worth Applying For
1. A monthly stipend. The 2026 CHIETA programme offered R7,000 per month over 24 months, for roughly two years of practical workplace exposure.
2. No experience required. CHIETA stated that previous work experience was not needed. That makes it open to recent graduates.
3. Structured learning. An internship should give you real tasks and a supervisor, not just errands. You build skills that employers recognise.
4. A better CV. Two years of experience in a professional organisation moves you from “no experience” to “experienced entry-level candidate.”
5. A professional network. You meet managers and colleagues who can give you references.
Opportunities Published for 2026
CHIETA-related opportunities came in several streams, with different closing dates.
Stream 1: CHIETA’s own 24-month internships
One round closed on 20 July 2026 at 16:30. It included an Administration Support Internship and a Supply Chain Management Internship, with research and skills-planning and Human Resource Management areas also listed. The learning areas included office administration, document management, meeting coordination, reporting and communication support.
Four 24-month positions were described: administration support in the CEO’s office, supply chain management in finance, research and skills planning, and human resources. Three accepted a National Diploma in Business Administration, Management or a related field.
Stream 2: Regional administration internships
A separate advert offered Administration Support Internships in the Northern Cape and Gauteng, with a closing date of 30 July 2026. If you live outside Gauteng or the Northern Cape, watch for adverts from other regions.
Stream 3: Head office ETQA, data and administration roles
An earlier round closed on 11 February 2026 and included a Certification Administration Intern, a Data Management Intern and an Administration Intern at head office in the ETQA unit, plus Administration Support roles in Grants, Projects & Regions. This stream is a good fit if you like detail, records and data.
Stream 4: Partner-hosted posts (Public Management, HR, Business Management)
Mthashana TVET College advertised CHIETA-funded internships in Business Management (3 posts), Human Resource Management (3), Management Assistant (4) and Public Management (4), closing on 30 January 2026. The Public Management post asked for the matching National Diploma and offered exposure to public sector operations and governance, while the HR post offered experience in HR administration and recruitment support. The adverts used reference numbers such as MTC/CHIETA-P3/2026 for Public Management and MTC/CHIETA-H4/2026 for HR. mthashana tvet college chieta opens fully funded internship programmes for 2026 +2
Stream 5: Work Integrated Learning (IT and other fields)
Jobox advertised graduate placements under the 2026/2027 CHIETA Work Integrated Learning Programme, acting as CHIETA’s implementation partner and placing graduates with host employers in industries such as technology, marketing, finance, sales and operations. Depending on your qualification and host company, roles could include software development, project coordination, research, reporting and quality assurance. If your qualification is in IT, this is the stream most likely to suit you.

Where it can lead: Junior Developer, IT Support Technician, Systems Administrator, Data Analyst or QA Tester.

Who Is Eligible?
The adverts followed a similar pattern. Confirm the exact details in each one before applying:
- South African citizen
- Unemployed at the time of applying
- Completed qualification in the field advertised
- No requirement for previous work experience
- A valid driver’s licence was treated as an advantage, not a requirement.
- Willing to commit to the whole internship period
The adverts also stated that CHIETA is committed to employment equity and reserves the right not to make an appointment. A good application doesn’t guarantee an offer.
Documents You Need
Prepare these before an advert appears, and scan them as clear PDFs:
- The official CHIETA internship application form (from the advert)
- Certified copy of your ID
- Certified copy of your qualification certificate or academic record
- Updated CV
- Driver’s licence copy (if you have one)
- Any extra documents the advert lists
Certification tip: Get copies certified at a police station or by a commissioner of oaths. Many adverts accept copies certified within a recent period, so check the advert’s wording.
How to Apply, Step by Step
Step 1: Find the official advert. Look on CHIETA’s website (chieta.org.za, going by the email domain) and its official social media pages. Be careful with third-party sites that repost old adverts with new titles.
Step 2: Note the reference number. Past examples include CEO2026/001, SCM2026/001, NTA2026/001 and GPA2026/001.
Step 3: Download and complete the form. Fill in every field, and don’t leave blanks.
Step 4: Combine your documents. Use clear file names, such as Surname_Name_ID.pdf, Surname_Name_Qualification.pdf and Surname_Name_CV.pdf.
Step 5: Email your application. The 2026 adverts used [email protected] for some posts, and [email protected] for others. Use the address in the advert you’re answering.
Step 6: Write a clear subject line. Include the position and reference number, for example: Application: Administration Support Intern – GPA2026/001.
Step 7: Submit before the deadline. Past closing times were at 16:30, so don’t wait until the last hour.
Step 8: Wait for contact. One advert said that if you hadn’t heard from CHIETA by 15 August 2026, you should consider your application unsuccessful. Don’t keep emailing for updates, but do keep applying elsewhere.

Closing Dates and the Current Situation
As of 13 October 2026, the closing dates I found have all passed: 30 January, 11 February, 20 July and 30 July 2026. Don’t send applications for closed posts. Instead:
- Watch CHIETA’s official channels for the next advert. The 2026 rounds appeared across the year.
- Check with Jobox or CHIETA about whether any Work Integrated Learning placements are still open.
- Keep your documents certified and current so you can apply quickly.
- Check the date on every advert, because “2026/2027” headlines on some sites are recycled.
How to Write a Strong CV
- Length: Two pages at most.
- Order: Contact details, short profile, qualification, skills, projects or volunteer work, references.
- Tailor it: Use words from the advert (for example “records management” or “recruitment support”) where they honestly apply.
- No lies: Don’t claim skills you don’t have, and don’t add requirements the advert didn’t list.
- Format: Use a clean layout, a simple font and a professional email address.
Motivational Letter Structure
Some adverts ask for one. If yours does, use this outline:
- Opening: State the position and reference number.
- Your background: Your qualification and what you studied.
- Why this role: Link your skills to the post.
- Why CHIETA: Show you understand its role in skills development.
- Closing: Thank them and confirm you’re available.
Keep it to one page.
Interview Preparation
If you’re shortlisted, expect questions like these:
- Tell us about yourself.
- Why do you want this internship?
- What do you know about CHIETA?
- How do you handle deadlines and pressure?
- Describe a time you worked in a team.
- How do you keep information confidential?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
Tips: Research CHIETA beforehand, prepare examples from your studies or volunteering, dress professionally and arrive early. For IT roles, be ready to talk through a project you built.
Common Mistakes That Get Applications Rejected
- Missing documents
- Uncertified copies
- An incomplete form
- Applying for a post that doesn’t match your qualification
- Sending the application after the deadline
- Using the wrong email address
- A vague or missing subject line
- Unreadable scans
Beware of Scams
CHIETA internships are free to apply for. Be suspicious of anyone who:
- Asks for payment for “registration” or “placement”
- Uses a Gmail, Yahoo or WhatsApp number instead of an official address
- Promises guaranteed placement
- Asks for banking details at the application stage
Only trust information from CHIETA’s official channels, and email addresses that end in @chieta.org.za.
