Besides funding learnerships, bursaries and apprenticeships, it runs its own internship programme. The programme gives unemployed graduates their first formal workplace experience.

The two positions

This round is a re-advertisement. It covers roles in the Governance, People & Risk business unit and the Office of the C

1. Human Resource Intern (Reference: HR2026)

  • Business unit: Governance, People & Risk
  • Expect exposure to HR administration such as recruitment support, onboarding, records and employee-related processes.

2. Administration Intern (Reference: AS2026)

  • Business unit: Office of the CEO
  • Expect support work in an executive office, such as diary and meeting support, correspondence, filing, document control and coordination between departments.

The task lists above are typical for these roles. They are not taken from the advert, so check the official notice for the exact duties.

Who can apply

The summary I found for this round did not include the detailed minimum requirements. CHIETA’s earlier 2026 adverts for similar roles were fairly consistent, so use them as a guide only:

  • The human resources position required an NQF Level 7 qualification in Human Resource Management.
  • Administration positions accepted a National Diploma in Business Administration, Management or a related field.
  • Previous work experience was not required.
  • A valid driver’s licence counted as an added advantage.
  • Applicants should be unemployed South African graduates.

Confirm the requirements for HR2026 and AS2026 on the official notice before you apply.

What you get

  • A monthly stipend: R7 000 for the 24 months.
  • Real work experience: two years in a professional office that you can put on your CV.
  • Skills: communication, systems, record-keeping, confidentiality and teamwork.
  • A reference: a good supervisor reference can open doors elsewhere.

An internship does not guarantee permanent employment. CHIETA has said this in other internship adverts.

Documents to prepare

The detailed document list for this round was not in the summary I found. An earlier CHIETA round asked for a CV, certified copies of qualifications, an ID document and academic transcripts. Some CHIETA rounds also required the official CHIETA Internship Application Form. Prepare these:

  1. Updated CV (two pages maximum)
  2. Certified copy of your ID
  3. Certified copies of your qualification(s)
  4. Full academic transcript
  5. Completed CHIETA application form, if the advert asks for one
  6. Driver’s licence copy, if you have one

Combine them into one clearly named PDF, or a few small ones. Keep the total file size reasonable so the email is not rejected.

Step-by-step: how to apply

  1. Read the official advert for HR2026 and AS2026.
  2. Choose the position that matches your qualification. Do not apply for both unless you qualify for both.
  3. Put your documents together and check that every scan is readable.
  4. Write your email. Name the internship and reference number in the subject line.
  5. Send it to [email protected] before the deadline, and don’t leave it until the last hour.
  6. Keep a copy of the sent email.

Suggested subject lines:

  • Application: Human Resource Intern – HR2026
  • Application: Administration Intern – AS2026

Sample email:

I am applying for the Human Resource Intern position (Ref: HR2026). I am a [qualification] graduate from [institution], and I am eager to build my career in human resources.

Please find attached my CV, ID, certified qualifications and academic transcript.

CV tips that help

  • Put your qualification and graduation year at the top.
  • Add a short profile of two or three lines explaining why you want this field.
  • Include relevant modules, such as labour relations, recruitment and selection, office administration or business communication.
  • List computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Include volunteer work, campus leadership and part-time jobs, since no experience is required.
  • Use a professional email address and make sure your phone number is correct.

Preparing for a possible interview

Only shortlisted candidates are likely to be contacted. Practise answering these:

  • Why do you want to work in HR or administration?
  • What do you know about CHIETA and the chemical sector?
  • How do you handle confidential information?
  • Describe a time you worked under pressure or met a tight deadline.
  • How do you organise your day when you have several tasks?

Prepare short examples of your own. Honest, specific answers beat rehearsed ones.

Timeline

  • 16 October 2026: applications close.
  • 1 December 2026: if you have not received feedback by then, consider your application unsuccessful.
  • Successful applicants will face background checks and assessments.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Missing the deadline. Late applications are generally not accepted.
  • Leaving the reference number out of the subject line.
  • Sending blurry scans or incomplete transcripts.
  • Applying for a position you do not qualify for.
  • Sending a CV with no details about your qualification.

Protect yourself from scams

CHIETA applications are free. Never pay anyone to “secure” an internship. Only send applications to the official email address, and be careful with unfamiliar WhatsApp numbers or social media pages.

Where this can take you

After 24 months, interns often move into roles such as HR assistant, HR officer, recruitment coordinator, administration officer, personal assistant or office coordinator. Some go on to further study. Others use the experience to apply for jobs across SETAs, government and the private sector.

FAQ

Is previous experience needed? Earlier CHIETA adverts said no, but confirm for this round.

Can I apply for both roles? You can, but only if you meet the requirements for each, and you should send a separate email for each.

Is the internship paid? Yes, R7 000 per month.

What if I hear nothing? After 1 December 2026, treat the application as unsuccessful. Keep applying to other opportunities.

Final word

If you have the right qualification, apply today. The documents take an hour to prepare, and the deadline is Friday.

I can also put this into a Word or PDF file or shorten it for sharing.
