A quick note first: OVK isn’t a Toyota factory. It’s a South African agricultural group, and its motors department runs the apprenticeships. The listings I found had deadlines in early 2026 (details below). I couldn’t confirm a motors apprenticeship that is open right now, so check the site before you apply.
Direct link to apply
Official OVK careers site: https://www.ovk.co.za
Open the vacancies section (called “Loopbane” on the Afrikaans site) and look for “Apprenticeship / Vakleerling”. Apply only through OVK’s own site. Never pay anyone to submit an application for you.
What is the OVK apprenticeship?
OVK is a progressive agricultural company with its head office in Ladybrand, South Africa. Its motors department looks for matriculants who want a technical career. Candidates get on-the-job training in a specific field and learn new skills.
Past listings covered branches in Hopetown, Bethlehem, Cradock and Clocolan. Each was advertised as an Apprenticeship / Vakleerling. Branch locations change between intakes, so check which ones are advertised.
What you get at the end
Candidates who complete the programme receive a certificate showing their level of achievement, and they are registered on the National Qualification Framework (NQF). An NQF-registered qualification is recognised across South Africa. It also gives you proof of practical experience when you apply for other technical jobs.
Requirements
These come from past OVK listings. Always confirm them in the current advert.
- Grade 12 with Maths and Science, or N2.
- A valid driver’s licence is an advantage. It isn’t compulsory, but it helps.
- Good communication in both Afrikaans and English.
- Computer literacy (MS Office) and good numerical skills.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Closing dates: what I found
- The Hopetown apprenticeship ran from 22 February to 27 February 2026. That is a very short window.
- One third-party site said an OVK apprenticeship in Ladybrand closed on 22 April 2026. I could not verify this on OVK’s own site.
- OVK’s current Branch Assistant in Training post for matriculants (a retail role, not motors) closes on 30 September 2026.
All of these dates have passed. For the 2026/2027 cycle, check the OVK site often and expect short windows.
Documents to prepare now
Have these ready as clear PDFs or photos:
- Your matric certificate or latest school report. OVK’s trade posts say a copy of your last report or matric certificate must go with the application. I expect the same for apprenticeships.
- A copy of your ID.
- A short CV, one to two pages.
- A copy of your driver’s licence, if you have one.
- Any certificates for technical courses or practical work.
How to apply
- Open the OVK site and go to the vacancies page.
- Filter for apprenticeships, or search “Vakleerling”.
- Read the full advert, especially the branch, requirements and closing date.
- Complete the online application and upload your documents.
- Check your email and phone for a reply.
Tips to stand out
- Apply early. Short windows mean you shouldn’t wait for the last day.
- Use both languages well. Afrikaans and English are both listed as required skills.
- Show practical interest. Mention any hands-on experience, such as fixing bikes, helping a mechanic or working on farm machinery.
- Keep your CV clean. Use correct contact details and a professional email address.
- Prepare for numbers. The adverts ask for good numerical skills, so revise basic maths.
Fairness and warnings
OVK says it is an equal opportunities employer and encourages people from designated groups and people with disabilities to apply. ovk
Be careful with scams. A real employer will never ask you to pay for an application, an interview or a placement. If a site or message asks for money, walk away.
Final word
An apprenticeship in a motors department is a solid first step into a technical career. Before applying, confirm what is currently open on the official OVK site, because I couldn’t verify a live 2026/2027 motors intake. Prepare your documents now so you can apply quickly when the next advert appears.
