Timing note: The Hollard unemployed learnership was last advertised with a closing date of 17 October 2025, so check whether the new intake is open before you prepare your documents. Hollard’s separate IT Learnership closed on 18 September 2026. Details are in the “Is it open right now?” section below.

What Is This Programme?

Hollard is one of South Africa’s best-known insurers. Its unemployed youth learnership is a 12-month programme for young people who have finished school but haven’t yet had a real start in the corporate world.

The advert describes a 12-month learnership aimed at unemployed South African youth, with sites in Johannesburg (Parktown), Cape Town, Pietermaritzburg and Pretoria. Learners finish with an NQF Level 4 Insurance qualification and gain exposure to a professional workplace.

A learnership is not a short course and not a normal job. It combines classroom learning with work experience, so you study the theory and use it on the job at the same time.

What You Get

  • A recognised qualification. The NQF Level 4 Insurance certificate is a national credential.
  • Real workplace experience. You work in an actual office, which helps when you later write a CV that says more than “no experience”.
  • Mentorship. The programme promises guidance from industry experts, alongside an interactive learning environment.
  • A route into financial services. Insurance employs people in claims, underwriting, administration, sales, customer service and IT.

Hollard has not published a stipend figure in the sources I found. Be wary of any website that quotes an exact amount.

Who Can Apply?

The most recent official advert asked for the following:

  • South African citizenship, aged 18 to 25
  • Matric / Grade 12 completed
  • English at 60% or higher, plus a pass in one other language
  • Maths at 50%, or Maths Literacy at 60% or higher
  • Not currently studying
  • Not registered on any other learnership
  • No previous formal insurance-industry learnership
  • Unemployed, or not employed in a corporate environment for more than six months
  • Computer literacy is an advantage, but not compulsory

The portal also listed a separate “Persons with Disabilities only” unemployed learnership, so check for that if it applies to you.

Requirements can change between intakes. Hollard’s earlier 2025 advert asked for slightly lower maths marks, so always read the current advert in full.

Documents to Prepare

Applicants were asked for a comprehensive CV, a certified copy of their South African ID, and a certified copy of their Matric certificate with transcript.

  1. Get your documents certified at a police station or commissioner of oaths. Most places do this free or for a small fee.
  2. Scan everything clearly, since blurry uploads are an easy way to get screened out.
  3. Save each file under a clear name, such as “Surname_ID” or “Surname_Matric”.
  4. Check that your marks match the minimums before you apply.

How to Apply, Step by Step

  1. Open the
  2. Find the unemployed learnership and confirm the title and reference number.
  3. Create a profile with an email address you check daily.
  4. Complete the form honestly, because your documents will be checked against it.
  5. Upload your CV, ID and Matric certificate.
  6. Submit well before the deadline, and keep a screenshot of the confirmation.

Is It Open Right Now?

  • Unemployed Learnership: The last advert, reference HOL251010-1, listed 18 positions and a closing date of 17 October 2025. I could not confirm a new intake open as of 4 October 2026. Hollard has opened this intake around October in the past, so check the portal regularly.
  • IT Learnership: This separate programme, for 12 positions in Parktown, had a reference number of HOL260911-1 and a closing date of 18 September 2026. It has closed.

Some third-party sites list different closing dates, such as 20 November 2025, and many carry no date at all. The Hollard portal is the only reliable source. The Edupstairs article’s apply button also leads to a third-party site, not Hollard’s own portal.

Tips to Make Your Application Stronger

  • Keep your CV to one or two pages. List your matric results, any volunteering or school leadership roles, and basic computer skills such as Word, Excel and email.
  • Apply early. Big employers receive huge numbers of applications, so don’t wait for the last day.
  • Use a professional email address. Something like works.
  • Keep your phone on and check your spam folder. Missed calls and emails are a common reason people lose opportunities.
  • Prepare for an assessment or interview. Practise explaining why you want to work in insurance and what you hope to learn.
  • Apply to more than one opportunity. Other insurers and SETAs run learnerships too, so keep your documents ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need experience? No. The programme is designed for people starting out.

Can I apply while studying? No. Applicants must not be studying or registered on another learnership.

What if my maths mark is below the minimum? The requirement is a screening rule, so you would likely be filtered out. Check the current advert for exact numbers.

Do I pay anything? No. Report anyone who asks for money to Hollard.

Final Word

The Hollard learnership can be a strong first step into financial services. Prepare your certified documents now, check your marks against the requirements, and visit the portal often so you can apply the moment the next intake opens.

I can also turn this into a shorter social post, or help you draft a CV for the application.
